Family: Ben, Vanessa, Juliet (4) & Lucia (8 months)
Location: Atlanta, GA
When we first moved into our house, the backyard was pretty bare. Over the years, we've added plants, trees, and flowers to give it a more lived-in feel. The addition of the tent/canopy gave us some much needed shade and relief from the hot, Georgia sun.
Little details such as the bird baths, stepping stone path, and vegetable garden give my daughters places to explore and interact with nature. We have wildflowers and potted flowers that bring bees and birds right to us.
Chipmunks and rabbits love trying to get into our garden, so we try out best to keep them out with a fence fashioned from a neighbor's discarded rose trellis. We've had success with cucumbers, tomatoes, and lettuce, but failed with broccoli, cabbage, and peanuts. A blueberry bush has slowly grown and given us more and more fruit each year. It's been fun learning how to work for our food and enjoying the fruits of our labor.
To a four-year-old, the world is full of delights. We have several empty pots standing ready to hold all her found treasures.
How lovely! Thank you Ben, Vanessa, Juliet & Lucia!
