Black and White doesn't have to be stuffy and formal. One trick might be to layer textures and patterns of the same color.

The chairs are beautiful.
I think the portrait is an attempt at eschewing formality, but there are more creative ways to accomplish that. As for the rest, I prefer black and white paired with warmer, lighter wood tones. I'd change out those Series 11 pieces for something lighter and maybe vintage. The flooring isn't working for me either. Ok, maybe I don't like anything here aside from the pig and the lamp but personal taste aside, it does seem a little like all of these things were thrown together without much thought. Sorry, guys.
I like the pillows and the fireplace, thats about it.
This room minus Napoleon Dynamite is okay. And a more white than black carpet.

ugh. Humor is fine, but having that painting smack you in the eye day after day is like someone telling the same joke over and over...loudly, in your living room. This is trying way too hard.
my house is mostly ivory/black/white/dk brown, with a few coloured accessories thrown in for fun.

The black & white only theme allows you to focus on what's really awesome - all the fun patterns, textures, and that flippin' sweet painting of Napoleon.

I think there needs to be better balance of light and dark, however. Its a bit too 'bottom heavy.'
