When you have brick walls in your home, thoughts most often turn toward painting them white. Maybe it's a reaction against the commonly-dark color of brick. But there are other options, too:
Take, for instance, this lovely light blue brick wall. This poor old wall is in pretty rough shape. But a coat of light blue paint offset by red furnishings and it's transformed into a happy place to hang. What do you think? Would you go with a color instead of white when painting a brick wall?

I think the blue looks great! A soft yellow or maybe coral could be fun too.
I like it.
I think the best wall color choice (brick or not) depends on what you have to decorate with. Case in point: the blue walls look amazing primarily because of the complimentary orange/red hues.
I did a Photoshop comparison between blue and green. Here:

@ebanfield: That's really cool! Thank you for that.
It looks like the brick had some patch jobs and probably wasn't pretty. Paint is a great way to remedy the ugliness. This picture also brings up a question for me. What is the best way to hang artwork and photos on a brick wall or a lath and plaster wall?
It would depend for me ... I am painting the brick walls in my sun room soon. Right now, they just have primer on them, and I am kind of leaning toward painting them a glossy white... the adjacent living room is painted "Butter Up" from Sherwin Williams- a very nice yellow, but I think I will go with white.
I think brick walls should be treated like any other wall. Paint them as to fit the colour scheme in the room. I like the light blue colour of this one.
I love brick walls of any kind! My dream house/loft would have a brick wall somewhere in it. I'm of the mindset that you should do what you love when it comes to paint. This includes floors.
I am loving the colour combo of the blue and red
It is so funny - I was just looking through the issue of Domino (March 2008) that image is from today!
Oh, Domino, I miss you still . . .
@ catalina,
recognized it right away. I still flip through mine regularly. I don't think they'll ever get old.
