At the end of this hallway there lies a nook. While many people would have settled for a side table, lamp and decorative item or two - that wasn't in the cards for Ohdeedoh reader, Alyssa. Instead she designed and had installed an outfacing bookcase, perfectly located outside her children's rooms!
The bookcase is currently holding around 100 books and there's room for many more with this type of design. It's a great place to curl up and read or act as a launching pad to reach books that might be higher up. The bench opens for storage beneath and it looks as though it was always meant to reside here.
It's a great use of space and is sure to encourage large amounts of reading in this home, thanks Alyssa!

Awesome!
This is beautiful! I am quite envious. What lucky kiddos!
Thanks Ohdeedoh for posting this! We love this reading nook in our home and use it every single day.
Thanks to our friend Zane Dungy for turning my vision into a reality, he made this build in better than I had imagined!
How lovely, and its a setup that will grow with the family!
it looks like this nook was begging for this build-in! great job. still searching for a perfect bookcase option now that PBK doesn't carry their massive bookcase anymore...
Oh, I love this!
I love this! I like the look of the books facing out, but I always wondered if you would be able to fit very many books in that type of book shelf. This post shows you can and that's great! I really want one now!
This is fantastic!
What an effective approach- wonder if it would work with adults books?
