A Bright and Inviting Home Office Renovation

This incredible renovation turned a dingy, unusable room to a bright and beautiful office space. Better yet, it's achievable on a modest budget (with a bit of luck) and a trip to the local IKEA. After the jump we'll show you the old room, what delightful surprise the homeowners stumbled upon during the reno, and what IKEA furniture they used to cheaply outfit a very effective office environment.

Believe it or not, this was the old room — complete with tacky vinyl flooring, painfully dated wallpaper and window treatments, and an overall sense of utter creepiness! The most obvious change, and also one of the least expensive, is the new coat of white paint covering the floor, walls, and ceiling. It's amazing what an afternoon of painting can do to a space.

As far as the pleasant surprise, the homeowners had no idea they'd find these beautiful wood floors hidden underneath the muck of the tacky vinyl. Not only did this save them major costs when putting in new flooring, but it gives the room a great sense of character and age.

Finally, the room is filled with many classic products from IKEA including the ubiquitous Billy bookcases, a bright orange KLIPPAN couch which creates a great focal point in the room, a variety of ALEX drawers, and a large REGOLIT pendant light. Small storage is provided by many KASSETT boxes, lining the bookcases. The final result is an office that feels casual and comfortable — an ideal working environment crafted from a nightmare of one!
