We wanted to create a room that we could keep fairly gender neutral and use as a nursery for all of our children.
I handmade boy/girl bedding and kept the grey aqua and orange base colors throughout. Once we found out we were having a girl, I added some pink accents that we can easily remove and switch out of a different color if our next baby is a boy.
Thanks Kaitlin!

Shaw's Original Fir...
It's not gender neutral if you are swapping pink for girls and blue for boys.
@Pi -- it's a gender-neutral base... Just like buying a neutral couch and switching out pillows by season.
Beautiful nursery. I LOVE that ceiling!
Love that teal.
That ceiling is amazing! At once soothing and fun . . . I really love it!
What are those floating shelves? Are they ready-made shelves or did you get creative with, like, clemintine crates or something? They are great!
You chose such pleasant shades of orange and teal. A clean and fun feel.
Very cute! The ceiling is the perfect touch.
Griffin, I believe the shelves are painted Ikea spice racks.
The orange book shelves are painted IKEA spice racks.
Very nice job. It is an energetic and yet soothing color scheme. Great idea to accomodate both boys and girls.
where are those great upholstered cubes from?
love the bed skirt on the crib.
I think I've seen the cubes at Target.
I'm so glad I don't have to decorate a nursery any more.
Cute job of it. Enjoy!
Too bad the book shelves are so out of reach for a little person. I also felt a bit disappointed to see that they didn't actually keep it gender-neutral. Why this obsession with colour coding our babies? It's a beautiful looking room, though. Adding colour on the ceiling is a great idea for babies since they spend so much time looking up from cribs, change mats, and the floor!
My favourite color is teal...and I love the shelves! They are always so difficult to find...did you order me or find them at a store?!
Thanks for all the comments!! The book shelves are $3 spice racks that we got from IKEA and spray painted. I knew when I put them up that they'd be out of reach of a toddler, but we don't anticipate our child staying in the room that long--as we are going to use this for all of our children. The basics of the nursery are gender neutral--the pink "color coding" that is in the room is completely interchangeable for boys. Ie. the hoops on the wall I just have to put new fabric in, the C on the wall I anticipate changing out for different names etc. and the flowers on the wall come off. Everything that is girly can disappear if we have a boy--hence we still feel the room to be gender neutral.
The cubes we got at Target for $12!! They just happened to have the right colors this year for back to school!!
