Twelve Chairs was founded in 2010 by two friends and interior designers, Miggy Mason and Roisin Giese. The two, who met while attending Cornell's interior design program, offer an array of beautiful furniture, home goods, and interior design services. As for the shop's name - it isn't random. 12 Chairs comes from the twelve students (and close friends) that comprised of Cornell's interior design class while the owners were attending the program. Moreover, Twelve Chairs' name represents the store's 12 guiding principles for creating an environmentally and socially responsible design shop. Twelve Chairs only considers carrying products that meet at least six of these twelve principles for social and environmental responsibility.
Upon walking in, you'll notice that the shop is light, open, and airy, while remaining comfortably intimate. Everything in view is for sale, from the light fixtures down to 50 year-old bakery table that currently acts as the store's make shift sales counter (not pictured - must see in person!). If there was a general aesthetic to assign this store to, I might say urban cottage.
Twelve Chairs is a great source for one-of-a-kind design, and for good looking products that adhere to a strict standard of environmental and social responsibility. It's with this combination that makes Twelve Chairs so special. Anyone in Boston looking for gorgeous interior design must visit Twelve Chairs. You won't regret it.

this store looks awesome. thanks for sharing!
wooden floor is stunning!
Lovely! Thank you for sharing. If only they were closer - though the next time I'm in Boston I'll try to stop by. I can always appreciate beautiful, well-thought-out design, merchandise and studio space. Plus, I want those two couches!
That bed in the corner... how can I get that to be mine? Where is it from? Is it actually from the store? I looked at the site and couldn't see anything that said they sell furniture.
We are so thrilled to see our shop on Apartment Therapy! Thank you Nick for the great write up. In response to Goosebucket's comment: Everything in the shop is for sale. The best way to see our current inventory is on our Facebook Page: http://on.fb.me/iqyvfD
This store looks unbelievable - I can't wait to check it out! Do you ever sell your smaller items at SoWa market in the South End?
Dannie - SoWa Open Market is one of our favorite Boston places to visit. We however only sell from our storefront in Fort Point. Hope to meet you soon!
