It took us a long time to track down this chair online.
In 1934, Xavier Pauchard created a range of outdoor furniture made of galvanized steel. For years breweries supplied the chairs, made by the Burgundy-based company, Tolix, to cafes and brasseries in return for them stocking their brands. They've since become design classics and epitomize French cafe life.
The A Chair, made of varnished galvanized metal and then painted red or cream, is $175 at The Conran Shop.
