Laura Casey of Laura Casey Interiors helped create a relaxing, personal space for an active family in the heart of Charlotte — with clean streamlined furniture and lots of cozy spaces, the home lends itself well to entertaining as well as relaxing. The family was drawn to the house because of its location and the ability to add a garage without compromising the backyard, which the homeowners love to enjoy in the summer via the spacious back porch, cocktail in hand (and fans on high!)
Laura gave the interiors a simple, modern feel with bright pops of color and texture; she used a clean, neutral base to build light and airy spaces with lots of interest. Custom-made furniture blends with Etsy finds, IKEA pieces, and local art — fresh-cut flowers and lots of texture on the walls and accessories make the space sing.
Apartment Therapy Survey:
Our Style: We're Geminis in this respect. We like a clean, modern feel, but can't resist color and pattern and weathered items with some history. You'll see that our dining room is straight out of a hacienda, I also could live in a hacienda in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, no problem!
Inspiration: the great outdoors and maybe the Viceroy Anguilla, wow!
Favorite Element: Porches and fireplaces
Biggest Challenge: Closets and storage space! Did they not wear clothes 100 years ago?
What Friends Say: Friends seem to like the porches and little spaces and color.
Biggest Embarrassment: Our gnarled front door; we can't keep our dog off it when the bell rings.
Proudest DIY: Our basement was kind of a DIY project; while nowhere near perfect, it's provided so much more space.
Biggest Indulgence: Art and wallpaper
Best Advice: Don't be afraid to hire an expert for help. It's their job and she or he will save you time and money and help you create a finished product you love.
Dream Sources: Slate Interiors, Charlotte, the numerous furniture and art galleries in and around San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, Kelly Werstler's house!

Very jealous of the kitchen, especially the back splash.
I really like this. Love the mix and pops of color. It's fun and casual but still looks like someone put it together with purpose and thought, so that it's not just a mess. Would definitely take cues from this designer. :) Good job! P.S. it probably helps that I love mixing modern style with historical and colorful style too, just like this couple.
lately i've been skipping over house tours from initial photos if they don't seem like a style i'd be very interested in, and at first glance i almost did that with this tour. so glad i changed my mind. besides doing a wonderful job with the interior design your house has great bones. those fireplaces are gorgeous. and i love your four seasons porch. great job!
I love it.
Favorites:
Color and style of sun room/porch.
Patterns used in the dining room.
The rest of the home is a bit bland for my taste but I do appreciate the thought and love that went into this home.
I wouldn't know what to do with a home that large. I could live in the sunroom alone! :o)
I love the touches of GLAM! They are so tastefully done in this beautiful home.
Very pretty, well-designed space. You even have Rapunzel windows. Excellent!
Very well done! Comfortable and functional with loads of understated style.
This is my new favorite House Tour. I can't find anything I don't love about it. You did such a beautiful job of marrying different styles into a really cohesive, inviting space!
Bold fabrics and modern touches mixed with some traditional furniture create visual interest in every room. Very nice, but oh, how I LOVE those 2 window seats with built-in shelving! I've lived in many places, and never yet have I had a suitable spot for a cozy window seat. Next time....
Does anyone know where I can get a chandelier like the one in the dining room? I probably can't afford it, but maybe my boss will decide to grace me with a huge bonus.
Very interesting choices, I enjoyed every picture in the house tour. What is the source for the all-glass U-shaped side table?
I liked looking through this one a lot. While it wasn't exactly my normal aesthetic, I really appreciated the warmth this home has and also the clever use of space and little interesting touches like the fold out bed.
I think the warmth comes from pretty careful "layering"...a lot of texture going on here. I think a lot of people forget to do that in their homes and that's what makes a difference to me in terms of a cozy, "finished" feeling.
This is a beautiful home.
I have a question to ask the AT community. My mother is preparing to buy new furniture to celebrate retiring. What does everyone think about how the two orange leather club chairs in the first picture on this post (fourth in the gallery tour) with just one matching ottoman? My mother found chairs she likes, and is thinking of getting just one ottoman but isn't sure. Personally, it drives me crazy, I think it should be two matching ottomans or one non matching. Any suggestions?
Just curious, which Robert Allen fabric is it that was used for the dining room curtains? In Roma/ Beacon Hill? It looks less like a damask, though, a little more sheer with many shades of orange instead of just one.
Ohoh, never mind, I think it's Bondo sunset.

I'm pretty sure that chandelier is a DIY!!!--

what is the source for the bamboo blinds with contrating trim?
Love love what they did with their space. Especially loving the back porch space! So happy and fresh looking.
Spending time in San Miguel de Allende will change the way you feel about color forever :) Love this space and the textures and clean lines mixed with color. Nicely done!
Gorgeous. One of my favorites.
Well done! Excellent job!
Beautiful scale, beautiful texture - and oh, well, everything. I especially like the lack of little collectible dustables. Thank you AT for putting little labels on the thumbnails, too. Good feature for reference.
What a beautiful space!
It's been a while since a tour was posted that I really liked. This is definitely a keeper! This home is truly the definition of eclectic. I love the way they mixed patterns, textures and color. They were fearless about using a statement pattern on the dining room chairs. They took plain chairs and made them special! Well designed, well thought out and the results are just lovely. Enjoy!!
This isn't really my style, but I love how you've created so many balanced and interesting vignettes around your home! I love little spaces that make me want to study them like a painting.
Also, I would live in that upstairs room year-round!!
Can't stop drooling over the leather chairs and ottoman. As close to perfection as furniture gets.
WOW!!!!! This is one of the best House Tours y'all have done in quite a while..
This place is just stunning!!! Love the grass cloth walls and those window seats...
Was that a Mother-in-Law Suite in the back yard???
TTOOOO COOOL!
Yes! Yes! Yes! I also have not seen many house tours lately that made me want to comment, but this one is absolutely worth a shout out. Maybe it's because I'm a Gemini too. <SWOON>
I absolutely love the clear (lucite?) fan. I feel like small things like that make all the difference. And that sofa bed and rug combo is wonderful. I want to be a house guest!
Great to see a Charlotte Tour! Your home is lovely!
What brand/color are the walls in the master bedroom?
Does anyone know where to buy those chairs and ottoman? The maker is listed but I can't find them anywhere.
I love the Murphy bed! Very impressive
