As much as I love pretty little things, my favorite items around the house are usually the most utilitarian. Vintage iron brackets hold the shelves that hold the pretty things, and look lovely themselves.

In a small apartment like mine, every single element- even hardware- has a big impact. This collection of iron brackets brings a little style to the crucial job of keeping things organized, and makes the place a bit more comforting. I grew up in a 100+-year-old house in Chicago, and I never feel quite at ease without a bit of history, iron, and wood around. In fact, all of these brackets (and the hook in the last photo) were found around Chicago, either during trips back home, or by parents who would hold onto them until the next visit. The shipping would have cost more than they paid for the brackets!

However, keep an eye out at places like Building REsources in San Francisco and Urban Ore in Berkeley. There are also some interesting ones on Etsy that I really want now. This is dangerous...
