Converting a guest room to a nursery or creating a space that can function as both is a common scenario for parents. Here, designer Sarah Stacey was tasked with creating a nursery/guest room combo that catered to both needs and aesthetics for a family in Austin.
Sarah shares:
The mother wanted the room to be colorful and modern. One requirement was that the nursery had to double as a guest room for parents and in-laws. So, we chose a daybed with a trundle which was placed on one wall...the crib, dresser/changer and chair were placed on the other.

• Chair: Client's own

Thanks Sarah!

White Enamel Flatwa...
Oooh, gorgeous grayish blue walls make all those mod colors and patterns pop! What a great compromise of baby and guests room. Bravo. Great job.
LOVE that crib!
So do you move the baby out when you have guests, or do your guests sleep in the same room as the baby?
Is the big, dotted print on the wall at Etsy find? It's gorgeous! Any shop name available?
Is that a crystal ball on that side table? Lucky baby!
I was thinking the same as MIKLAKMIKLAK but the room is pretty.
Love the colors-- so soft and pretty! The art over the guest bed is just my style-- can you share the artist/shop name?
Thank you everyone for the nice comments! I believe the little girl sleeps in her parents room when guests are over.
I painted the art above the crib, I got the idea from an artist named Paule Marrot and adjusted the colors to fit with the colors in the room. Here is the inspiration piece: http://www.paulemarrot.com/modele.php?cat=Art%20Encadre&naviguation=13
We know several people with combo nursery/guest rooms. Generally, kid stays in room and parent(s) sleep there too. Actual guests get the master bedroom.
An adult bed (or futon, or reasonable sleeping mat) in the child's room can also be super handy when a child is sick, teething, etc and not sleeping well. When sick, our toddler will settle down (i.e not scream and cry) and rest/sleep if he can see one of us. The sleep I've gotten on a tri fold mat on his floor isn't great, but it is better than all of us getting no sleep with an inconsolable child.
Where is that beautiful mirror from?
@Maggie Riley - We purchased the mirror from Guilt. You might be able to find it elsewhere...the manufacturer is Mirror Image Home, style is Quatrefoil in gold leaf.
That wall color is wonderful! Very soothing and still plenty cheerful, to me.
It looks really amazing, the way you have decorated the dweeling. Are those rugs on the flooring, looks like a floral type of rug to me.
