The Colorfully Eclectic Colorado House That’s the Very Opposite of Boring

“Our home was a beige canvas when we moved in!” says Tina Bousu, interior stylist and blogger. “I went room by room to create spaces we enjoy living in and that reflect our personality and lifestyle. Some of our projects include adding beams, installing wood ceilings, murals, creating metallic accent walls and a down-to-the-studs kitchen reno.”
“We are also a homeschooling family and encourage creativity and outside-the-box thinking, so you will find lots of whimsy, color and quirkiness here! We enjoy our family time, don’t take ourselves too seriously and our home reflects that. We have four children ages from 14 to 5 and four canine kids. Our daughter also has a bunny and a few fish that round out the zoo. One thing is for sure, we are never bored!”
Which fictional character would be most at home in your place? Alice from Alice in Wonderland. Her adventures are like a journey through our home. There are surprises through the unexpected but overall a feeling of fun and whimsy abounds. She’s also a bit of a rebel, which I like to fancy myself as being. I think Alice would fit right in here.
Describe your home’s style in 5 words or less: Colorfully eclectic
What is your favorite room and why? Hmmm I honestly can’t pick just one! Our master bedroom is soothing yet bold with a strong feeling of nature and is the perfect place to end the day. The dining room with its mural, our DIY table and acrylic chairs always makes me smile. The kitchen that I painstakingly designed and sourced, everything from the backsplash tile to the range, will always have a special place for me. And then there’s the office/classroom with its secret garden feel, from the faux greenery wall and DIY floating desk to the antique mirror. And our family room with its soaring ceilings, a set of antique doors, beams and colorful pieces is my fave place to hang out in with my family. Long story short, I can’t pick just one!
Any advice for creating a home you love? Buy what you LOVE, forget about matching sets; buy pieces that speak to you. And always add personality to your spaces by including items that reference something about you. When someone walks in the door who do you want them to meet?
