A Cord Control Nightmare Tackled With Ease

Flickr Finds

Could you manage to corral more than 30 different wires connected to 22 different devices, all on top of one open-sided IKEA desk? Oh, and you have to lay out your office so the back of your workspace is the first thing people see. Well one Flickr member did just that, leaving behind tons of pictures and ideas for us to use in our own (far less complicated) workspace setups.

Yep. That's 4 monitors, a gaggle of peripheral goodies and a big ol' tower to wire 'em all up to. For most people, this would be a cord control nightmare. But not for Flickr member masuidrive76. He's got the guts to expose the back of his workspace to the rest of the house!

Using a clever combination of wire wraps, drilled holes and an IKEA-hacked desk mod, he's turned this cord conundrum into a presentable piece of workspace inspiration.

If you're dealing with your own cable spaghetti mess, check out these pics (and more in Flickr photo album) for some great ideas.

Our favorites? By attaching a horizontal shelf to the IKEA MIKAEL desk's panel, he's given himself a hidden shelf to stash a few extra peripherals. And before getting started, masuidrive76 plotted out his whole workspace (cords included) into a wiring illustration to plan where each wire needed to travel.
