Family: Eric, Sandra, Gus (9) & Bea (4)
Location: Wichita, KS
One day, my husband and I were reminiscing about the rocketship slide we used to play on in our hometown when we were growing up. He made the mistake of saying out loud: "I could probably build a rocketship slide out of wood."
Ding! Ding! Ding! My Project Denneler bell went off and I wouldn't let the idea die, much to my husband's dismay.
We had acquired an old, wooden, hand-me-down, hand-me-down, hand-me-down, playset from our neighbors, and decided to tear it apart and salvage what we could for our new rocketship. Then, during the summer of 2009, my brilliantly-clever, woodworker husband designed and built this fabulous structure in our backyard.
There are two levels to the rocket, a launchpad with an arching starry bridge, a spacecraft swing, a sandbox, and a climbing wall. It's the hit of the neighborhood. Our kids especially love telling their friends "my dad built me a rocketship!"
Thank you Sandra & Eric; so inspiring! Gus & Bea must be over the moon! Readers, check in on this creative family at Project Denneler.

um...we live in Salina, can I send my hubby down to check this out and learn how to build one??!
Phenomenal! But how do you mow around it?
It takes a little extra time to trim & mow around all the odd angles, but I don't mind! Worth the effort.
