A DIY Shared Bedroom Space For Two Kiddos, Complete With Closet Play Loft

After finding out that I was unexpectedly pregnant with a third child, creating a combined room for my daughter (5) and my son (3) became a necessity. The room is small, long, and narrow and with both a bed and a crib in it there was little space to play. We decided to re-purpose an unused closet into a special play space. We created a "lady loft" for my daughter and a "man cave" for my son so that they could both have a special space that belonged just to them.

I had fairly recently decorated the room solely for my daughter so I had to change things up on a dime. I relied on my sewing machine, paint, and my husband's tools to transform the room. I added elements which are special to my children like a gallery wall of frames, sourced from a thrift store and painted red, displaying pictures I drew of characters from an ongoing story I tell them at bedtime.

I also bought inexpensive fabric from fabric.com and made pillows, blankets, fitted sheets, as well as a fabric cornice to provide color and pattern for the room. The loft closet is the kids favorite part of the room of course!

Thanks, Heather!
