What first caught our eye about this picture was how gorgeously the aluminum and white Apple products play off this rough, wood plank desk. But this desk has waaaaay more going for it then good looks. It's smart, too. And easy. Hit the jump to check out this DIY, cord-wrangling wood plank desk.

The WoodWires Desk was designed by the Dutch Creative Studio, Johnnydoes. But that doesn't mean it's overpriced and unattainable. This—dare we say it—almost perfect desk can be yours with just a few screws and a trip to Home Depot.
But how does it hide wires, you ask? Well you know how the broken surface of the wood planks give it the cool look of a shipping crate? Those grooves between the planks also allow you to position all your peripherals anywhere on your desk so their cords can be tucked into the space. They're then led towards the back of the desk where they're plugged in.
Just grab a bunch of planks and start working out a design that fits around the top of your desk. Then lay out the surface pieces with your thickest cord as your guide to leave a bit of space in between.
This desk is obviously suited to people who spend their time on screen and not on paper. But if you're worried about writing (or using your wireless mouse!), grab a small desk blotter for your "analog" needs.

I saw this a few days ago on Lifehacker and thought i'd have a go. I've only got a small space to work with so at the moment it's a lil cramped but will be getting a mac mini shortly to free up some desk space. I've also done an instructable for it!

a little easier!
I like this concept, but at the same time I'm afraid that thinner cables without a lot of strain support could be damaged this way. Thicker power cables, sure, they can take the damage but will still show a bit of wear.
the only way this desk is even somewhat doable for me is if there is glass over part of it for the occasional hand rendering, writing notes, or, god forbid, hand writing notes.
