One of our favorite childhood memories is watching movies in the car at a drive-in movie theater on our trip to Cape Cod every summer. It's harder to find a good drive-in these days, but with a little creativity, you don't even have to leave the house:
Jadi decided to throw a Drive-in Movie Party, and created this amazing concession stand for the kids. The kids each received seven pretend dollars, and paid one for the ticket, and the other six for snacks. They decorated cardboard box cars and brought their pillows and blankets. What a great way for kids to learn about spending while doing something they love...buying snacks!
Head over to Homemaking Fun to see more photos of the drive-in cars. And maybe while the kids are settled in their cars watching a movie, you and the adults can enjoy a glass of wine and some M&M's in the kitchen.

With a secondhand dvd projector and an old sheet, we host at least one or two outdoor movie nights each summer. Guests bring enough goodies to share, grab a seat or a blanket, and enjoy the movie. It's a blast!
we did an outdoor movie party for my 5 year old for her birthday party. we made fake money with her picture on it and we have a pass through window into our kitchen that acted as the concession stand. I used paper gift boxes as trays and they got their food in those so they could easily contain and carry the food. We also rented a popcorn machine - that was a hit! Each child brought sleeping bags and pillows and came in their pj's.
After the movie was over each child received a flashlight as a favor and played flashlight tag.
Drug stores and dollar stores were great places to get those big boxes of candy for cheap.
It was one of the most fun parties we've given.
Flippin cute idea.
hooray for these tips! we've been planning an outdoor movie night for our backyard this summer...that concession stand is great.
The Cape Cod drive-in is still there! It's about 10 minutes from my parent's beach house. It's such a fun thing to do on a warm summer night.
Love the idea of a homemade drive-in party. I'm going have to do that when my son gets older.
Sweet!
