We've seen some wonderful and inventive jewelry storage solutions on Apartment Therapy over the years, but this elegant display that appears to float weightlessly in the air — spotted while photographing an upcoming Little Compton, Rhode Island house tour — stopped me in my tracks for its surprising beauty.

Composed of a piece of driftwood suspended from the ceiling with fishing wire, the concept is simple, but the execution is lovely and creates a sense of drama in an unassuming bedroom corner. If you aren't lucky enough to live near the ocean where you can hunt for your own driftwood, it is often available at pet stores or online where it is sold as aquarium décor for fish and reptiles.

Although it looks cool, i'd have to fight the constant urge to swat it...
@apteryx: What are you, a cat? ;)
It definitely is gorgeous! Though my cats would assume it's their for their amusement and I would find it on the floor within the first day. :)
Beautiful, but it means you'd have to only hang necklaces that have clasps in order to get around the fishing wire holding up the driftwood.
So... is there just one strand of fishing wire and you have to balance all the necklaces? Or two strands? And if there are two strands, isn't it difficult to remove the necklaces? I love the way it looks, but curious about its functionality.
@Stephanova, you can hang the necklaces that unclasp in the section between the hanging wires.
So how do you hang the line from the ceiling? Tacks of some sort?
I was just thinking the same thing! I love this but only being able to get at the clasped necklaces on the ends would make me crazy!!
wow i love this! i see no issue with necklaces that have clasps vs. those that don't! work it out people, it's too lovely not to :)
i'm with twincities: how does this attach to the ceiling?
Nice.
This would look cute in a store window, but it is a little too gimmicky for my house.
Hmmm... I bet you could do the same thing with a deer antler. I'm also curious to hear how the fishing wire is attached to the ceiling.
I'm not a jewelry person but I love the painted dresser!
Clasped or sans clasp, they simply go on and off the piece with no difficulty. No necklace is placed beyond a support wire. It's fun and pretty. I know the family. There is a cat but he ignores all but the most expensive jewelry
Love the painted dresser AND the frame above. Is it made of repurposed wood?
