This 1928 home in Minneapolis underwent a dramatic face lift when sustainable-design firm Shelter Architecture transformed it from a small, one-bedroom home into a spacious home with a beautiful kitchen and open floor plan.

By using the existing structure and adding on four main components, Shelter Architecture transformed this old, outdated home with sustainable materials and energy-efficient technologies.

1. A glass "stair tower" was added onto one side of the home connecting the interior to the outside with tall glass panels.
2. The entryway was expanded to include a mudroom.
3. A second story master suite was added.
4. The former dining room was turned into a library.
