Even the most diligent of recyclers can be thrown off by a party. People toss items into the wrong bin, food compost goes down the drain and everything is thrown off balance. RecycleScene has put together 5 great tips to get your party back into gear when it comes to recycling.
Want your next party to be zero waste? Follow these tips by RecycleScene:
Choose items that you can easily recycle. When it comes to beverage containers, for example, aluminum cans are a good choice because the packaging is lighter, more compact and more easily recycled than glass or plastic.Compost leftover food scraps. Food waste makes up a large percent of residential waste, sometimes almost half! It’s likely that the fees paid to haul solid waste are less than they are for green waste, so you can actually save money for your city. A quick breakdown (so to speak) on composting: When waste is composted, organic waste breaks down aerobically, and no methane is produced. Basically, composting is smart!

Great tips...I love the sign in the first photo.
I'd add one more: Make sure your trash/compost/recycling are all clearly labeled, next to each other, and in an easy to find place.
Love all the tips here and on the link
These are all great tips!!
We just got back from our 4yo's birthday party at a local park and implemented all these tips and more!
We had a superhero party with capes made from thrifted t-shirts and plastic bag transfer stars. We used the leftover fabric to make banners and superhero masks. We provided compost and recycling bins, and used thrifted sheets for tablecloths. Everyone brought shared sidedishes (delish!).
Finally, and best of all, we implemented a NO GIFTS policy. Instead, we asked guests to bring non-perishables for our local food bank - we filled up our son's red wagon with donations!
It was a great, fun party for 30+ families!!
Here are some pics of the capes - they were SUPER fun!!
