Heather Clawson over at Habitually Chic posted these smashing pictures of a bedroom suite designed by Bradley Thiergartner Interiors for the 2009 Traditional Home Hampton Designer Showhouse.
The room is relaxed, masculine and has just the right amount of organized chaos. Filled with unexpected touches (Zebra head anyone?) the space truly makes you feel like you know the person who lives here. For more chic pics say hi to Heather at Habitually Chic.

This somehow it comes off as really badly-scaled and cluttered. The globes, the tiny bedside lamps, the small picture over the bed. It just feels slightly off to me. No love here.
Whoa, yeah...I'm with Potluck on this one. I like the objects by themselves though.
Yes, yikes! Looks a bit pre-hoarder to me, almost.
Ehhh... I love individual pieces of it, but as a whole it comes off as claustrophobic. There's just too - much - stuff.
I see what you're saying about scale, in that first shot especially, but let me tell you, the photos don't do it justice! Actually standing in the room was a whole different experience. It was beautiful! & that shelf unit-- to die for.
I LOVE that orange H blanket. Any idea where it's from?
A little cluttered for my taste, but I dig that shaggy chair!
I agree with Frances. First thing I thought of was "Hoarder's". Too much stuff, and bland at the same time. What's the point of the picture lamps if we have to look at all the ugly cords - very distracting.
Not what I'd do in my bedroom, but I like it. Clearly the occupant is a man. It feels masculine, clubby, livable, not terribly overdesigned. The globe table feels a bit overdone, but otherwise I'm on board.
ShopgirlCA: The blanket/throw is Hermes.
Also, this looks like it is not quite finished... cord control, etc. And the room would look SO MUCH different with better photography. I'm guessing these are some quick snaps taken by the designer as she was finishing up.
A nice little detail I just noticed is the ticking stripe fabric backing for the open shelves (where the TV is located). That's a great idea.
Uh.... yikes. I can't BELIEVE that people have the nerve to criticize the AT window when this mess was is in a SHOW HOUSE. I don't hate it (in fact I really like the picture wall, minus the distracting cords, and I like some of the rich leathers and woods), but I can do without about 95% of the accessories. All the random lamps and wicker gewgaws? Why??? I can usually find a reason to be complimentary about an interior, but not this time. (And the table full of Coke? What if it spilled? I can't even imagine the fallout.)
eww. nice objects. horrible presentation
Eeesh. Way too cluttered. All those globes would drive me insane.
Yep, some fun stuff but mashed together like that it is not "the right amount of organized chaos" nor is it relaxed.
Organized chaos is great in a living room/family room or den but in a space that is meant to reduce stress for sleep, that would only increase anxiety for most people.
Going back to a reader question from yesterday, get rid of the stuff and go back to basics here. What stuns me is that a designer actually thinks this is acceptable in a bedroom.
There is far to much clutter in this room. Can you imagine trying to dust this room? Maybe they should try the cure :-)
This is a real showhouse room?
Were the designers prohibited from painting/wallpapering the beige walls because of the landlord?
What's w/ all the cords for the picture lights everywhere?
And who above the age of 23 drinks Bourbon w/ Coke - Much less without ice???
Sometimes I wonder if I have enough talent to make it as an interior designer in New York.
And then there are times when I don't wonder AT ALL.
at first glance I assumed this was an article about hoarders.
I try not to say disparaging things when posting here (not always successful at it) , but this is having the same effect on me as the show Hoarders. Time to throw away more tchotchkes!!!
And yes, this is a design house?!
too much shtuff.
Clutter, clutter...
I'm sorry but this is bad. The clutter, the odd mismatched scale of everything, the cords! There is so much to look at yet nothing at all that grabs my attention. I also counted 4 chairs and a stool. That seems like a seating overkill for a small bedroom.
So much visual confusion. So little attention to detail and scale and color. So glad AT readers are a discerning bunch.
That picture wall looks like somebody got a lot of stuff at a garage sale - with no comment elements or theme. And the cords! Yikes
Way too cluttered and messy looking.
Ditto on the clutteriness....if that's a word.
Is this person entertaining multiple guests in the bedroom? The number of chairs suggests that this is more than just a bedroom... If it's a small flat with only a kitchen, bathroom and bedroom, then I could understand the amount of stuff and seating here, but otherwise, it's just plain overwhelming.
Plus, where does one store clothing here?
At first glance I thought I was looking at a few "before" pictures. Seriously...this passes as "design"? Not in my world!
ShopgirlCA. Yes, the blanket is Hermes. It retails for $2500. Crazy.
"Yes, the blanket is Hermes. It retails for $2500. Crazy."
You can often find vintage Hermes wool and cashmere blankets on eBay for @ $800-900.
Agree about the cords and the clutter - totally! But did anyone notice that crazy bed? It has weird wings on it. That would be like sleeping in a box! And the right bedside light is not tall enough to project over the wings! How would you read in this bed? (And the left is too far away - you would need to climb out of bed to turn this off.)
Also, the chairs around the bed make it seem like an obstacle course to even get there. Imagine going to the bathroom at night - you would kill yourself trying to get out and back again.
Regarding the picture lamps, since they are not hard wired, you would have to get up to the lamps to turn them on! How would you even reach the top ones?
I went to the designer web site to check him out, and in the FIRST PICTURE there's an ugly cord jumping out. Hah!
