Name: El Palauet Barcelona
Location: Barcelona, Spain

Hotel decor has really stepped into the spotlight over the past six years, and boutique hotels are sprouting up in quaint towns and metropolitan cities, offering a more intimate, curated, and tailored customer service experience to make you feel like you're home away from home. When I pulled up to the large and grand doors of El Palauet hotel along the busy street of Passeig de Gracia in Barcelona's trendy shopping district, the emphasis on design was quite clear. And after getting a tour from the staff, the emphasis on the customer was even more so.

During a birthday trip to Barcelona this past spring, three girlfriends and I stayed at the stunningly beautiful El Palauet. Having seen this hotel and its unique design aesthetic featured in multiple design and travel publications as the "Must Stay" place in Spain, we couldn't wait to explore the hotel's decor and receive a personal tour from the incredibly friendly staff.

The hotel underwent a two-year renovation process, during which time all the rooms were completely updated and equipped with modern appliances and resources fit for the modern age. But because El Palauet is considered a historical treasure, a few original elements went untouched, including the 45 original ceilings and the original wood banisters and railings, which date back to 1906. Even the original green glass that was used along the wall one of the main offices was still there and in tact.

You're immediately transported back through time when you enter through two grand wooden doors fitted with stained glass windows and ride up the vintage elevator shaft to the six romantic suites. Large doors give way to stunningly modern white rooms bathed in sunlight from all sides, including a massive couch in the living room where, believe me when I say, an epic selfie-session went down. Modern white leather furniture stands out against walls and ceilings that feature the original crown molding from the building's original design. Gorgeous glass tables, stainless steel kitchen counters, and bedroom terraces with mosaic tiled floors complete the incredible suites.

The building's exterior features a beautiful stained glass tower that stretches all the way from the bottom floor to the top of the building, and in the downstairs bar, the juxtaposition of rustic limestone walls and ultramodern furnishing is, like the rest of the hotel, unique and fantastic. Aside from just being one of the most Instagram-worthy places to stay, El Palauet offers nightly turn down service where they leave little notes at your bedside and dim the lights, and 24 hour personal concierge service.
