The 1772 home, also known as the Fawcett-Reeder House, is often referred to as one of the most original homes in the area. UrbanTurf explains that although the private residence was renovated in recent years, adding a kitchen annex, the updates kept the home true to its historic state. The home still dons its original weatherboard siding and wide plank floorboards along with seven fireplaces.
The current owner has filled the home with antiques and American memorabilia, but what struck me most was how readily apparent the rustic simplicity is beneath.

Howard Butcher Bloc...
Just to clarify for readers, it should be noted that this property is not in DC (which has no designated "Old Town"), but across the Potomac in Alexandria, Virginia.
The house is spectacular, and the home owner should be applauded for using antiques and Americana, however, a more restrained hand would be advisable. Too much clutter! The bones of the house, which are the real star, are obscured by too much stuff.
Oh come on--you can't show us the listing without the price tag! It's lovely, in any event.
Agreed re clutter. Also, I'm always amazed when real estate sales photos are done so sloppily -- in this case, couldn't they have cleared teh leaves off the table in the 2nd exterior shot, not to mention removing cardboard boxes and doing something with the gas grill!
I love that brick/lawn!
I am green with envy. I want that house!
I can haz? I think this place would look amazing with a little color and a little less clutter.
This place is just perfect for filling with IKEA's entire £œÐ∀§åïš× line!
The link has the listing info - it's 1.85 million. Who from northern VA wants to go in on it? let's have a homeshare :)
I like the bricked lawn too. Anybody know if those are special blocks with voids in the middle, or regular ones turned on their sides and placed in the square design? I couldn't tell even after squinting.
What clutter? Looks just right to me. A place to dream about.
I've been in this house on a previous house tour in Alexandria, and there IS a LOT of stuff.....much of it truly priceless antiques and paintings. The location is terrific, as is the porch and bricked yard. I sure hope there is a top of the line sprinkler system installed in this historic wooden home.
Clutter, hah! Personally, I'd love to have just one of those pre-1850 ovoid salt-glazed jugs or the inlaid knifebox. This house looks like a well-loved home, not a museum.
@denisegk It's Grasscrete. I yearn for a lawn just so I can use this product.
@Nagatha Christie: oooh! Grasscrete, I want some!
(love your name)
