Today's video comes from Maxwell's magical holiday workshop, with his concept for creating your own holiday cards out of your favorite shirts.
• The Star: HP Photosmart 6520 All-In-One Printer Sleek, lean, and quiet, this printer features a gesture-enabled touchscreen & automatic photo paper tray with peek window. Print from anywhere with HP's "e-print," share wirelessly, and scan and copy anything. (And by anything, we mean anything.)
• Maxwell's Favorite Picks from the HP Holiday Headquarters Page (Stolen Shirt Texture can be incorporated into all of these):
• Folded Mini-Book, Card, and Calendar Templates
• Vibrant Snowball Ornaments
• Star Christmas Tree Topper
• The Holiday Elf: Ten years ago, Maxwell Gillingham-Ryan was known as the "apartment therapist," traveling by scooter to his clients' homes to help them make their spaces beautiful, organized and healthy. Part interior designer, part life coach, his touchpoints were simplicity, comfort, and lack of clutter. Unlike typical designers, Maxwell didn't want to dictate where things should go or how people should live, he wanted to arm them with the tools and the confidence to decide for themselves. Maxwell launched Apartment Therapy in 2004, turning the weekly email into a daily blog post, reviewing stores, offering tips, posting photos of Maxwell's design projects and answering readers' questions. Maxwell has a B.A. from Oberlin College, an M.A. from Columbia University, and a M. Ed. from Antioch. He lives in New York's Greenwich Village with his daughter, Ursula.

White Enamel Flatwa...
My favorite shirt is plain white -- not so helpful!!!
This is a great idea, my father has the very same copy/printer, I might just borrow it, thanks.
Pretty cool! Too bad me and the better half pretty much live in band tees. I'll remember this next time I'm at Goodwill and see a shirt with a print I like but wouldn't really wear.

Dear SherryBin, I would love a plain white shirt card from you. :) Best, M
Maxwell, what a nifty idea; too bad all I wear are dark solids...
I think a scanned band tee would look pretty cool. Plus, if that is what you are "known for", your friends/family would instantly know it's from you. ;o)
Too bad I am always nude.
@granola suicide- "Too bad I am always nude." Butt think of all the creative possibilities!!! You could just randomly put little strips of black censor tape on the cover. In odd places & angles- just to get people scratching their heads! I might try this myself!!!
@SherryBinNH- "My favorite shirt is plain white -- not so helpful" -Being an ex-NH resident myself, having spent MANY a looong cold winter in the land of "Live Free or Die Frozen" just off Hampton Beach, I'd see the opportunity of making winter wonderland cards- a white tee shirt is the perfect background for a little picture of a sled, or 2 pieces of coal placed above a little carrot to represent a snowman. A little bright red cardinal on a piece of evergreen bough, a surfer in full gear wet suit heading down to the shore...the list for me would be endless! Hope your holidays are wicked awesome!
@Robin S- "all I wear are dark solids"- ahhh... a starry night of dark blue or black, or a few white snow flakes pasted over dark green...
I'm saying all this because a few years ago I did something similar. Except rather then scanning fabric, I used fabric scraps directly onto the heavy card stock (as a way to use up some extra scraps that were languishing in the bin). The solid colors were perfect for hand stitching some little bits of ribbons & other fabric embellishments. They were all so cute I wanted to keep them all for myself! Also, I have found a way to recycle holiday cards. When I make a home made card to send to someone I use pieces cut out from the card they sent to me last year! Add some bits of ribbon, buttons, etc. Something fun to do to while away the cold winter nights following the holidays. I make the cards then store them away for the next year. That way I'm not doing the frantic holiday rush of buying, addressing, & sending last minute cards.
Happy Holidazed!!!
