"What's a musher?" That's the first thing I thought when I spotted this Alaskan home in Architectural Record. Then its location began to scratch at the corners of my memory. Oh yeah, a musher:
A musher is the guy on a sled at the back of a team of sled dogs. He keeps the team going, shouting commands from the rear. This particular musher is a four-time champion of the Iditarod. What might his house look like?
A few of our favorite pics are gathered above. The home is set, of course, in Alaskan wilderness. It stands out against the open land and sky, much like a sled team standing as the lone verticals on a horizon of snow. Its exterior is clad in charred cedar and its interior is a warm natural wood. What better place for a musher to come home to?
