A rug in the kitchen provides a little forgiveness underfoot and warms up what is a predominantly hard-surfaced space. We loved the look at AT Europe, Paris Close-Up: An Oriental Rug in the Kitchen, and liked it again when we saw it in Kim's Kitchen Remodel. See two more kilims in kitchens after the jump...

Love the look.
We used to have one in one of our kitchens, and it worked very well. Spills were less of an issue then we imagined.
Miss AT: Europe -- please bring it back!!!
I love the look of kilims in the kitchen. Kilims seem to go well with a wide range of decor and styles. I have an eat-in kitchen and (sadly) no formal dining room. I have an old kilim under the table and chairs. As mschatelaine has noted, it really hasn't proven to be much an issue for me either with respect to spills or cleaning. I blot and clean up spills with a mild detergent and I vacuum it from time to time (lots of pet hair - my dogs like to hang out on it when I am in the kitchen cooking). Since my kilim is old and well-used, any remaining visible evidence either blends into the design or enhances its well-worn look. That being said, I don't have the courage to use an expensive or precious kilim on the kitchen floor. But a well-used one works well for me.
I love the way this looks - perhaps I should start looking for a nice old Kilim for my kitchen...
Yes! Why would we put a machine made, polyester rug in our kitchen when all the other rooms, including the bathrooms, have handmade rugs? Our friends with kids laugh at us and say "you'll see...!". Well, we have an 8 month old and 2 middle aged Borzoi (read that "walking hairbombs) and our home is off limits to none of the above. A spill is just as easy to clean off an oriental rug as it is off of a machine made rug leaking voc's into our living space! I consider it art on the floor.
That's my kilim in the first photo (thanks for posting!) and I'm amazed how easily it cleans up. I have to say it collects alot of cat fur but since I have 6 I expect that. But I've cleaned cat puke and food spills off of it with ease, and it really warms up the space. I think it's one of my favourite possessions.
i love that rug with that contrast of the panton chairs
I really like the second picture with the two red rugs.
Where is it taken from?
