To get cozy in winter, we always have several blankets on the bed and one is folded down at the foot of the bed. We love the look and like to keep something similar-looking on the bed even in the summer. These are a few examples of lightweight throws that can drape the end of the bed during the warm season. A few sources are included after the jump:
• 1 Matteo Due Lace Top of the Bed
• 2 A beautiful bed featured on Channel 4. Throw by The White Company, London.
• 3 A modern bed featured in The Independent, with a throw by The White Company again.
• 4 A light-but-layered bed with linens by de Medici.
• 5 Two beds with "bedend spreads" by Mrs.Me Home Couture.

Haha, I wish this would work for us. I really love the look of a layered bed, but the blankets and sheets always end up in a twisted ball by the morning that it's just a hassle to make the bed. Still, the first two are my favorite -- I like the different tones and textures.

Just a Little Bit
Agreeing with Laura -- they're very pretty but I'd never make my bed with that many competing parts involved.
I think they all look very lovely(love the Matteo) and MAYBE I can pull off the layered blankets. However I cannot stand multiple pillows. Its a pain in the ass. Cant stand them in the hotels.
I just don't get the throws that are on some of these beds that are just big enough to use as a towel. It's a waste of fabric. But again I feel the only things that should go on the bed are the things that are actually going to be staying on the bed while you sleep.
Can someone please id the gray quilt/coverlet/whatever in the first photo for me? I've been looking for one like that, with the circular stitching/quilted pattern. Thanks!
So is everything for summer white, gray, or beige?
Isn't warmth the point of a layered bed, which makes it better for colder temps?
I kind of like stripping my bed down to a thin comforter and sheet in the summer and then loading up on the layers when it gets colder.
Hmmm. I seem to be lonely in my "same look year round" bedding. I have a comforter, a top sheet, and a white faux fur throw, more for the cats to cuddle on than for me, except in the dead of winter. All I ever need or want.
@glurf look at this one from Target has a pattern not circular -
