Scanned from a 1947 issue of Better Homes and Gardens, can you guess what they are selling in this ad? Here's a hint: It is something "for every room in the house"!
If you guessed Armstrong Linoleum Floors, you sir/ma'am are a super genius! The rest of the ad goes on to tell a little story about how the husband wants to hide the kitchen because you can see it from the living room. A friend visits and "incredulously" inspects the kitchen updates. He shows off the hidden table, hidden ventilated vegetable bins, and, of course, the linoleum tabletop, counter tops and new linoleum floors. As funny as this ad is, it does have some valid kitchen storage solutions and eye popping color choices to boot!

Haha, advertising has come a long way!

I *love* these old ads and catalogues! One thing I love (other than the general retro design style) is the view out the window. Usually it looks rural, b/c back then people tended to have so much more space! It's amazing how much things have changed (I say that like I was alive at the time lol).
My favourite element has to be the clock!
First, what's with the Coach and Nike ads above? This is encroachment, imo.
Now, back to the ad. I like it and find it looks similar to designs shown in my 1976 Better Homes and Gardens decorating book, salvaged from my father's bedside table years and years ago. I'm one who doesn't mind a kitchen looking just like a kitchen but for those who do mind, this is a clever option!
That would be a great option for a studio/loft apartment if you don't want the kitchen taking up a lot of room.
