Look familiar? Katrin Gaethke is a fine art photographer who captures the extraordinary beauty of her everyday surroundings, and then channels that beauty into everyday objects for the home, like pillows and throws. Not surprisingly she's fond of Italy -- but also of her own stomping grounds, San Francisco. Favorite shooting spots include Golden Gate Park (where this image of one of the majestic windmills at the west end was taken), the Legion of Honor, and her own backyard garden.
Katrin partnered with her mother Ann, who is a textile designer, and the two have figured out how to make digital-to-textile transfers of striking clarity. The images are large and vibrant, and invigorating. Below, for instance, is a pillow faced with a larger-than-life dahlia from the Dahlia Dell, its color and detail so amplified by the blow-up that it feels almost surreal. Imagine it sitting your favorite comfy chair, and see the room come alive.
Katrin and Ann's company, A Liaison, sells their photo-enhanced clothing and housewares to both wholesalers and the public. Check it out here.
