Everyone has a reason for wanting something soft: whether it’s safety, aesthetics, or comfort. Luckily, we now have options beyond bad 80s sectionals, or our parents' brown paisley La-Z-Boy. Lately, overstuffed couches, chairs, and beds have been making appearances at both big box retailers, and the chicest of boutique shops. Here are a few examples.
- Mah Jong Modular Sofa by Hans Hopner
- Memory Chair by Normann Copenhagen
- Grimen Bed by IKEA
- Mellow Sofa by Francesco Rota
- Serie Up 2000 by Guetano Pesce by B&B Italia
- Mini Dada Children's Rocking Chair by Ligne Rose
- Oasis Chair by Crate & Barrel
- "Bug" Bed by Poliform — unfortunate name for a cool bed!

Have you seen the Jean Paul Gaultier Mah Jong couch? I swear I almost fell down. Funniest thing I've seen in years. If you need to see it in person head down to 35th Street/Madison, it's in the window. http://athome.kimvallee.com/2010/09/jean-paul-gaultier-dresses-up-roche-bobois-furniture/
the mah jong looks nice, but i am certain my knees and the knees of my parents would protest loudly. sorry, not for me.
Re the Mah Jong - so how do you get down to it and once down how do you get up? Oh to be young again, if ever!
abcornwell - just picture Eddie from AbFab...
I like puffy couches, so long as they're not marshmallowy and obese.
I used to be so in love with the Mah Jong, then I finally found one on display... My love for Mah Jong was crushed -- so disappointing in real life. I have a great appreciation for sitting on or at floor-level, but I knew that it would only be me and the older generations on my side of the family who would like that (in a shoe-less household, which I am not currently in). It was just far too lounge-y. Even if you had the money to double-up on the floor cushions to raise the seating height, I think that the feel of the cushions and product as a whole isn't worth it.
I'm fine with puffy seating but, when seating's low, the dogs think I'm initiating a love-in.
I thought overstuffed=firm; if there's more stuffing than there should be you won't have as much give.
I wonder where one can get a green grimen?
not a fan of the sectional pictured, but there'ss something about the layout and the "feel" of that space that I adore.
love the on the floor sectional. sure I can't afford that though.
It would be great in my kids' playroom!
