I thought I'd kick off the New Year with this — a project I completed a year ago and just recently photographed. Here's what happens when someone lobs me the keys and says, "Ok kid, go nuts".
This is a duplex loft in Brooklyn, and upon purchase it was much more traditional/transitional: crown molding, sea foam green walls, orangey oak floors. Many people were involved in the decision-making, but I was more or less in charge of the color schemes.
Upstairs in the main room, we did what I call a Fauvist color-washing, in which we attacked the walls with grey glazes applied with putty knives and wallpaper brushes. Downstairs, we used two of the same colors and applied the glaze with a shoe shine brush. That's an off-black powder room upstairs, in the bathroom downstairs I created a faux-fossil fish room, and the piece de resistance is the two-tone tree painting behind the master bed, by dear friend and colleague Brian Gilmartin.

well, i'm in love.
This is a beautiful loft that I would love to call home!
Much love,

where are the chandelier and the dining table from? Love them!
Source for the couch?
words can not express my jealousy at the moment...
I love the fossil stone but it is so expensive! Looks like it's from the Green River Formation. (www.greenriverstone.com)
@yellotabby The chandelier is from New York-based Michael McHale Designs

Very nice. Very creative. How do you do the faux-fossil fish?
I love it. It has nice warm touches that keep the industrial look from feeling too sterile.
But anyone who's ever had a bathroom infested with silverfish would not be into that fossil wall!
Sofa?
Love the place! What color is the bathroom, is it small? ...I have a small bathroom with no window, and hoping this color will work. :) Could you tell me the name? Thank you!
Too dark for me, but love the loft space itself.
I really like the fish in the bathroom.
Beaudacious!
Absolutely love the paint techniques, and the fish!!
too much texture, too dark for me. Love the dinning table, chandelier and the sofa. Bedroom looks sad to me.
im interested in a source for the sofa as well...
The couch is from ABC
The dining room is from From the Source
The dining room table, I meant.
