We've covered many different birdhouses in previous posts, but nothing tickles our fancy more than seeing what folks come up with on their own. Check out this handmade bird dwelling that even holds a few surprises inside!
This pair in Washington whipped up their own birdhouse in honor of the now defunct Readymade magazine. It might have been a few years in the past, but it's still a great project to get the creative juices flowing.
The inside is view-able by clear plastic that allows you to check out the mirror, frame and wooden perch that the new bird inhabitants are sure to enjoy. You can see more of this entertaining project from Flickr member mahalie.

I hope that is for a pet and not for wild birds. I know that at least robins get really aggressive toward their reflections, and I think that is not-uncommon, so putting a mirror in a wild birdhouse doesn't strike me as a great idea.
Cute!
Check out these cool renegade urban birdhouses. They're made to hook onto street signs and overhangs in a very unofficial way.

Dang, I hate to do this, but...The entry hole is huge, allowing access for larger, aggressive birds and scavenger-types that can destroy the nest (and eat the eggs) of the birds you may be trying to attract. Do a little bit of research. Usually, the simpler the better.
But building a birdhouse is a great parent-child project.
neat!

I found the cutest collections of birdhouses. This one is one of my favorites!
