Check out this fireplace mantle. Or home computer station. It's a little bit of both in the Edina Residence, a contemporary renovation of a traditional Cape-Cod-style house in Minnesota.
The house was run down when the clients approached u + b architecture about designing a complete overhaul for them. This detail is just one within the sleek renovation.
The fireplace surround also houses an A/V cabinet, as seen below:

Love when things are posted on here from my neck of the woods! But...I'm not so sure if I'm diggin this. I think the fire place could be so much more grand if it was the only thing on that wall. Not with a computer station right next to it. Innovative idea though.
It's absolutely wonderful; can anyone ID the painting/print over the fireplace?
I'm sorry, but I am very tired of blog writers misspelling "mantel."

I absolutely love this!!
Good idea, but I'd say the execution is a little off. The TV station/ shelving unit competes with the fireplace; I would place them on separate walls. I also think that the counter is too close in size to the fireplace, stealing the fireplace's thunder as well. If it were shorter and just wrapped the edge of the wall, to follow on the other side-- it would be an interesting addition.
It looks unfinished to me.
