There comes a time in toddlerhood where kids are too small for a tricycle or balance bike but are enamored with the idea of propelling themselves on something with wheels. The ride-on toy is the perfect fit for this stage of development. Here is a handsome one that you can build yourself and customize however you see fit.
This design at Made By Joel couldn't be simpler and it looks absolutely refreshing for that very fact. Made from basic materials available at any home center, it can be constructed in an afternoon. It is sturdy, low to the ground and small enough to tuck away in a corner when not in use. We especially like the red stripes and the super-thoughtful place for toy storage in the back.
In a world cluttered with overdone, commercially-linked toys, this one stands out for all of the right reasons.

Commercial Flour Sa...
So...what I need to do then is paint some racing stripes on my IKEA-table-on-wheels and embrace the nephews climbing on it & scooting around whenever they come over.
That's it! I'm doin' it. Thanks for the idea!
That thing looks like torture.
A spare kitchen cabinet would work too.
Actually looks like a good idea for painting low areas w/o sitting on the floor (as you get older, it gets more uncomfortable) I've been involved in a huge project that this would have been more ideal than scooching a folding chair now & then.
rmbnn, you're a genius.
I'm not a fan of plastic ride on toys, but I don't think I'd want that thing crashing into my walls and furniture, either.
rmbnn, think you win this round!
Yes, why not give a toddler something hard with corners to zoom around on. A dreadful case of form over function if you ask me.
Round those corners :) My 2 yr old boy would LOVE smashing into things (and people's legs), that's just what boys sometimes do. But this IS really cool, and with a couple of kid friendly tweaks, totally functional.
