A month ago we received an e-mail invite for the AIA Los Angles 2010 Home Tours in Venice, California. For years we've wanted and intended to be a guest on one of these great architectural home tours in LA but never made it to prior events. This time we didn't let the opportunity pass to tour the modern homes of Venice.
House #3: Front Sitting Area
Every home on the tour brought its own personality and captured the details of the design. We expected to see the furniture design classics and the usual high end furniture that you may see in many luxury homes. We were pleasantly surprised to see original designs and design creativity that fit each individual home. When touring the well designed houses, we paid particular attention to elements of the design that we could share with readers. As we all know, great design doesn't have to be expensive. The brilliance of design is the power of the mind, not the power of the pocketbook.
We labeled some of the photos as inspirational designs that could be incorporated into your own home. They include design elements such as wallpaper, a bed headboard, and a hat rack, to name a few. Our all time favorite moment in the home tour was discovering the chair made from belts. We would love to see this chair recreated during a DIY project.
Four homes comprised the AIA Home Tour event and we do have our favorites. We found inspiration in all the homes, but in particular we fell in love with two of the houses. Exterior and interior photos from home #1 (Gelner Residence) and #3 (Floating Bungalow) are featured to showcase the best of this year's AIA Venice Home Tours.
