You probably know how much we love succulents here at Re-Nest. So it comes as no surprise that we're intrigued by this particular incarnation of the easy-care plants...
Take a look at this succulent mat, still in the development stages, from Altman Plants. It's a possible replacement for some uses of thirsty, traditional grass sod; while it's a piece of succulent art not appropriate for walking on, imagine part of your yard covered in these mats with modern concrete steps to create a path. They'd be great for green roofs, as the LA Times points out, as well as the less-walked-in front yard.
We definitely see this as a beautiful low-water solution, but can imagine that it wouldn't be the appropriate answer for just any yard (on account of the don't-walk-on-the-succulents part). What do you think? Should this product hit the market, will you be in line? Or might you consider making your own?

I dunno... if you're not going to walk on it, you could put just about any plant there. I guess maybe if you're hung up on it being lawn-like...
I do like the texture, though. It's very pretty.
this would be useful to replace sidewalk grass or center divider grass, no one walks on that stuff anyways.
