I'm always on the lookout for new ways to display my kids' art so that it looks neat but can be easily switched out when they bring home a new batch from school. Fortunately, I've amassed a big collection of thrift store frames, and this week I figured out how to use those frames for their art in a really simple way. The key? Sheet magnets!
Materials:
Old frames with the glass removed
Sheet magnets
double sided adhesive tape
Step 1: Cut pieces of sheet magnet into 8 small rectangles to fit on the back of the frame. You could also cut up business card magnets if you have any on the fridge that you're tired of looking at. Affix 4 rectangles with a piece of double sided tape to the back of the frame as shown.
Step 2: Lay the artwork across the magnets.
Step 3: Add the remaining 4 rectangle magnets on the top of the first ones to hold the art in place.
All done! It only takes a few minutes to mount the art and even less time to switch to a new masterpiece when needed.

Love it! It so simple---why didn't I think of that?
Oops, meant to say "It's so simple!"
So smart!
This makes me think... if you painted a wall with magnetic paint, you could attach the magnets to the back of the frames and then just sandwich the art between the frame and the wall. AND you could switch the layout of the frames all the time without adding more holes in the wall.
@sarahez - great idea! i totally want to do this for my kids!
When I first read this I thought the wall was painted with magnetic paint. Cool idea, though :)
Funny that you guys mentioned magnetic paint, because that was my original plan. I glued magnets to the back of a frame, but it was too heavy to even stick to the fridge. Maybe I just needed more magnets? Smaller frames? If somebody tries it and gets it to work, shoot me an email with pics!
