Maybe we're boring but each year for the holidays we buy a real tree. It's a bit more maintenance with the watering but the fresh pine scent makes it worthwhile. All across the blogosphere, however, we're seeing artificial trees cropping up.

And most of them aren't even green. Admittedly, it's a fun look. Hillary of Wee Wonderfuls shows her winter white kitchen tree while Nicole of Making it Lovely just purchased a pink(!) tree. The different colored artificial trees are rather appealing, don't you think? Tell us readers, if you put up a tree this time of year, what color is it?

Growing up, we always had a silver tree, but now we have a traditional green artificial tree. I'll never have a real tree because I'm allergic, but even if I wasn't, I love the ease and versatility of artificial. I may try to talk the hubby into the white one. I love it!
we have a 1960s silver tinsel tree i bought on ebay about 10 years ago. it makes me smile every time i look at it.
I think the appeal of the funky colorful ones is that they're fake and don't make any apologies for it...they're not trying to look like a real tree. Normally we have a real tree, but recently purchased a few small aluminum ones in silver and purple for other rooms of the house. They're awfully fun!
I have a tiny white tabletop tree that I really enjoy. Plus my dog can't mess with it.
I sometimes feel the tiniest bit bad for Making It Lovely's husband --- that guy is surrounded by so much pink! It's all beautiful and tasteful but I think their house has a decidedly feminine feel.
i also have a pink tinsel tree, shown here:

but please don't feel sorry for my husband. he picked it out.
I never do real trees anymore. At first it was a health thing (all that pollen and mold and standing water in the house... no thank you) but after about a week with a fake green tree I was really won over by the perfection of the artificial shape. I feel like real ones look sloppy now, all uneven branches and strange angles.
And I LOVE the white trees that are regaining popularity at the moment. I almost got one this year but in the end stuck with my cashmere fir. The white was too expensive for a possibly fleeting trend. But if they stick around for a few years I may just give in and get one. :)
We have a real tree. Every Friday the day after Thanksgiving the whole family goes skiing into the forest to pick out a tree, we drink hot cocoa, eat candy canes, listen to christmas music, have a picnic lunch and make a day out of it. Love it, love the tradition of it, love the smell and all of it's imperfections. And, living in northwest corner of the Colorado Rockies... it fits with our life here. My Mom has an artificial tree and it makes me sad... (and, although she loves it, she does miss the smell).
When Christmas is over, we chip up the tree and use it for mulch.
Green. I love that the tree is imperfect and has its own character -- I prefer the wabi-sabi esthetic, and it's not made of unrecyclable PVC. Our waste company will recycle the tree, and if they don't, we will cut it up ourselves. (Hey, if you're in the neighborhood, you can use our circular saw!) There's no pollen or mold on the tree; besides, we washed it down before bringing it inside, and this thing is taking in fresh water every day -- very little standing water anyway. ;-]
Real all the way. I just think it's more festive. This year we chopped down our tree on last snowy Sunday afternoon. My son got ride in the sled and help pick out the tree. Afterward we drank hot chocolate and listened to Christmas music while decorating it.
The most compelling reason for artificial? One (hyphenated) word:
Pre-lit.
Here's our tree! A $10 purchase from a summer garage sale two years ago.

our tree is red this year! and red, is "green", since we just brought last years tree back to life. i think we'll be able to use this tree for years to come. and, it was a fun project.

we have a big fake green tree in the family room (horrible, horrible pine allergies forced us to make the switch a few years ago). it's covered with a variety of paper ornaments I've made with my tots. We also have a 6 ft silver tree (I wanted one for years), it holds the hand painted ornaments my parents bought in the 60's along with some late wwII plastic ornaments from my grandmother. I love the tree, so retro and fun, and the dining room doesn't get much foot traffic so the delicate ornaments stay safe.
For the record, both of my kids have trees in their rooms too. We're silly like that...
my partner and i have a 3 foot tall pink FEATHER tree that's pre-lit. We love it! Got it 3 years ago from Michael's on sale and its easy to store during the off season. We usually put it on a small table, so its not right on the floor, which makes it easier to see and appreciate in all its queer glory.
i LOVE my white, bright and colorful tree!! would never have anything different!
