I've been very inspired by Pantone's 2011 Fall Fashion Color Report when planning my wardrobe, but felt relatively at a loss as to how I might translate to my home decorating. I love all of the colors, but how could they all fit into one space? Well, that was until I saw this living room, and I was shocked at how Pantone perfect it seemed! Just about every color from the forecast is found all in one room.
When decorating, a lot of people make the safe decision to stick with a couple of colors and use lots of neutrals. It creates calming environment, which is particularly important to a lot of homeowners. But for me, living in Northeast Ohio, where there are many more cloudy days than sunny ones, and winters that last far too long, I like a lot of color in my home.
For someone who loves vintage, selecting colors from Pantone's Forecast is even easier. This living room seems right out of a hip 1960's pad! Very fun and full of personality.

White Enamel Flatwa...
Well the room might be all that in terms of new colors, but that room makes me completely crazy! I have no idea where to look next, I'd be running for cover after 3 minutes in there.
I'm torn. Yes colors are pretty but it feels a cluttered and dated.
I think it's pretty rad. Nice loud colors without being chaotic.
I like clutter to an extent. A bit dated yes, but clever and well executed. Doesn't look like Dwell.
I love color. I love lots of colors all mixed together. But this room is horrid.
I love it, especially that orange wall behind the front door, I wonder if it's wall paper?
looks like crayola blew up in there
I live in NE Ohio too. But I still haven't liked rooms like this since I was six.
I think my main issue with the room is the white carpeting. I think if it was a nice hardwood underfoot the room would look eons better and more cohesive. Even if the wood floors didn't extend into that tiled (linoleum?) entryway.
I would've liked it better with a hardwood floor (like natural or carbonized bamboo), mostly clean (no mock croc or other textures) white walls with maybe one accent wall in a bright color, a color already featured in the furnitue. Get rid of the leopard couch, or replace leopard material with white. Ivory sheer curtains. Add some clear acrylic or white lacquer coffee tables (get rid of the brown). And get rid of that green rug. I know, white, white & more white. But really it doesn't need any more color. For accessories, would prefer to see some more modern ceramic or stainless items. Modern offsets would do this room wonders.
I agree that this place needs a bit more white and I am just not feeling that orange basketball textured wall. The green rug looks sort of matted and sad compared to the bright and bold colours of the surrounding surfaces. I like the room and all the furnishings and the moldings on the walls is gorgeous.
Pretty colors, but having that many loud and not very complementary colors in one room makes me twitch.
I love this room! It's a great example of color, texture, balance and contrast.
Too much color for me too. Great idea however - definitely creative.
But where is the purple?!??!?!
... that purple is so close, SO CLOSE to what I like. XD;; Closer than the purple that was popular last year, though, iirc. Hope for next year?
Why y'all gotta hate? The aesthetic is tight.
Wow, funny that the Pantone fall prediction colors are so close to colors in a room that already exists.
I think it's great to see people take risks with color when decorating. I love that the sleek mid-century vibe has a little bit of rock and roll thrown in.
I love this. Far too many people are afraid of color and prefer to live life in whites and neutrals. I could find something new to revel over in this room each time I walked in, and feel completely sane in a space free of "repurposed" dreck or strings with clothespins holding 'artsy' photos.
I've looked at this picture again and again because I should like it. Individually I like all of these pieces especially the leopard couch. I think its the greens. If you shut the door and take up the rugs it becomes a lot more cohesive. (I put the image into paint and erased those sections just to look at it and without the greens it really does make more sense.)
I can't believe these are 2011 Pantone colors. My home is decorated around five of these colors. WOW. I have lived with a version of these colors through three homes. Finally, I'm in style.
Mr. Modtomic, it does work. Don’t let the haters get you down; you probably would not like their spaces either.
I particularly like the way you’ve mixed Easter egg and earthy colors; it really takes the saccharine off those pastels. The wallpaper is fabulous. It looks like you’re having fun. Looking forward to checking out your blog.
I adore every iota of this space. The colors are so lovely and it has so much character. I love how it can grow and change with the owner's eb and flow of interests as vintage pieces are found and sold. Lurve it :)
what a lively and wonderful space - i can imagine the person who lives there being a lot of fun. bah humbug to anyone who says a room must be this or a room must be that. colors are frequencies and we each receive them differently -- make the room your own and for gosh sakes, live and let live!
There are a ton of great pink interior design pictures floating around now. Some of them are quite remarkable.
Beautiful pictures. I just posted an article on my interior design blog
