At Home with Klaus Frahm, Architectural Photographer

Inside Man

Renowned architectural photographer Klaus Frahm of Hamburg knows how to capture architectural style in photographs. As early as age 15, his desire to be a photographer was already strong. Trying his hand first at photojournalism, he quickly transitioned to landscapes and eventually architecture. Klaus is now a renown and widely published photographer, documenting man made elements and urban landscapes across the world.Klaus Frahm's home, as intimately photographed by Michael Muller—musician for Austin based band Balmorhea and photographer—shows a classically simple yet elegant home in Börnsen, Germany (Near Hamburg).

The 15+ room labyrinth of a home was passed down from his parents. Complete with a studio, 2 dark rooms, a work room and a full office, Frahm is the only occupant. He is a master cook, and the kitchen is always stocked with over-flowing bowls of fruit and vegetables and spices.

From Michael Muller, the photographer:

"He has THE most unique house I've ever heard of let alone seen and explored. My pictures do it no justice at all to its immensity and eccentricity. He is a dear friend and a truly distinguished master of his field.

The living room boasts a newly restored Bechstien grand piano as well as a massive and meticulously organized music collection of cd's and lp's arranged alphabetically with markers for every letter. The remainder of the home is stocked sporadically with floor-to-ceiling shelving teeming with art, photo and architecture books.

Truly, some sort of childhood exploratory fantasy setting, the home is unique in it's sprawling floor-plan and numerous passages to traverse between the levels with several differing staircases. The home is on the edge of a large nature preserve with a docile creek flowing in the ravine. Klaus is a stand-out in the field of architectural photography and teaches yoga in his spare time."
