Parts of the country have been seeing lots of snow, so that got us thinking about shoes yet again and some quick DIY ideas for where to put the really wet ones.
It's great for baking cookies- or for holding wet shoes- get out a baking pan and a wire cooling rack. Via Better Homes and Gardens.
Another way to make a simple boot tray work better- fill it with stones so that the water from boots on wet days will drain down. Via Martha Stewart
Any other easy ideas?

Looks good, but what do you do with the water at the bottom of the rocks? Seems like it would be a real pain to clean out.
I imagine you could just leave the water to evaporate, then rinse and hand dry it to get rid of any musty smells.
In our dry house the water would evaporate overnight.
I thought the tray filled with stones was a brilliant solution...until I looked at it from a toddler's perspective, and laughed and laughed. Maybe in a few years?
Or instead of loose stones, use a pebble mat like this one http://www.cb2.com/family.aspx?c=477&f=4456
Are you trying to tell me that the old stained folded bath on my floor is not aesthetically appealing?
i think the stones look nice but i'm with e_lisa, in our house with a 2.5 year old i'd have stones ALL OVER! and then with a baby on the way who will be crawling eventually I'd be afraid of the choking hazard.
We take the shoes off and leave them outside to dry. Easiest solution for us.
i cannot believe how pricey that table mat is! I do like the idea though (kiddos: 2,4, & 6)
my 11 month baby would try to eat the rocks!
Love the look, might be slimy to clean. And between our 2 yo and 11mo old, these would end up in all corners of the house. So for now, anything remotely decorative and within our kids' reach must have a playability factor to it. Sigh.
My son is three so I think at least I would be able to get him to pick most of the stones up when he was done playing (terrorizing the cat) with them. Maybe just use fewer larger stones so they won't travel as far and can't fit in mouths?
