Mia had a specific request for her three year old birthday party theme: a unicorn pajama party. Simple right? Mercy, her mom, came up with some charming, not cheesy, ideas including this rainbow photo booth. The party was held on a Saturday morning in their Upper West Side apartment so the guest list was kept to six girls. There was a table for crafting a unicorn horn hat, and another table for "makeovers" and dress up, another request by Mia.
The girls ate a unicorn cake and rainbow colored fruit, and snuggled up on the couch to watch a short cartoon- an episode of Max and Ruby that apparently had inspired the pajama party/makeover idea. They went home with a small goody bag including all of the dress-up supplies they were wearing- beads, rings, sticker earrings.
For the photo booth, Mercy used a large black frame to which she glued poster board with rainbow print outs glued on. The clouds were cut out with cotton batting.
Our own little girl attended this party, and she had a blast. Although it was apparent a lot of thought went into the party, we loved that it was a party that catered to the kids interests rather than an overly sophisticated vision meant to impress. The other take-away for us was, a small number of toddlers or preschoolers works well, and finally- keep party activities simple!
