Location: Philadelphia, PA
I designed this space for my first baby. My husband and I decided to leave the gender a surprise, so my goal was to design a nursery fit for a sweet little boy or girl! Rather than going with a predominantly grey, green or yellow room, I decided that a rainbow of colors would be the foundation for the space.
The vibrant, natural fiber rug was the first big purchase I made for the space, and the design came together around it! The only new pieces of furniture we purchased for the space were the crib and the storage cubes. Each of the other pieces were hand-me-downs that I upgraded with new paint or fabric. The wingback chair belonged to my husband's great-grandmother. It was previously covered in an offensive orange fabric, but I think it looks great now!
There are a lot of DIY projects in this nursery. I crafted the crib mobile out of a hanging plant basket, ribbon and cardstock. The curtains are from Target with custom fabric panels sewn into the top for a pop of print. The striped dresser was painted with chalkboard paint so I can label each drawer with the contents, which will make for easy organization of baby's laundry. I also made the typography mirror that hangs above the changing table and the pom-pom pillow that's sitting on the chair.
The artwork and accents in the room were inspired by some of our favorite places! The rooster print above the crib is a photo I took in Key West, Florida which is where my husband and I were married in 2011.
I'm really excited to welcome our little one home to this space and am ready to finally enjoy spending some time in here!
