When Nicholas Todd isn't studying at Colorado University Boulder, he blogs on The Project Universe. He recently redid his home office, building a deep, raised shelf for his laptop, monitor, and speakers, and shared some great pictures on the site.

The shelf is made with a tray inset, in which Nicholas planted some rye grass into. In his first iteration Nicholas installed LEDs below the shelf for ambient light, but decided he needed something a bit brighter, so he recently replaced them with CCFL tubes.

His monitor is a 23″ Cinema display with a VESA wall mount. The desk is built from a door that's attached to the wall with a cleat. Two legs in the front help keep it up. He screwed bits of bent coat hanger into the wall to wrap excess wires around below the desk.
