Abeego: A Reusable Cotton/Hemp Plastic Wrap Alternative

Here's a great alternative to plastic wrap and zip-lock bags. Abeego products are made out of an organic cotton/hemp fabric treated with beeswax and plant extracts, and they're all fluid-resistant and washable in cold soapy water.

The Abeego product line is handmade in Victoria BC. The line is made with organic cotton/hemp fabric treated with a beeswax and plant extract treatment developed after months of experimentation by owner Toni Desrosiers. The line consists of three styles of food packaging: the "Wrap" for sandwiches, the "Snack" that holds about ¾ cup of nuts, seeds, fruit, granola, etc., and "Flats," a plastic-wrap alternative. The products feature a simple design of natural unbleached fabric and your choice of a simple colorful embellishment.

The flats work by being pressed in place. The beeswax treatment is slightly sticky so they hold their shape and form a seal around the bowl or container you are storing food in. They work best when slightly warm, but do not heat them since the wax is likely to melt away. Reusing them is easy, as they can be hand-washed in a mild cold water soap wash.

Abeego products are a fantastic replacement for disposable food packaging. They are well-designed and easy-to-use. You can buy them at various retailers across North America or online through abeego.ca.
