A Riot of Color and Texture in Melbourne

A Riot of Color and Texture in Melbourne

What is it about Australians? They always seem to have the most stylish homes (and the coolest accents.) So when I saw this breathtaking indoor/outdoor space, alive with a riot of colors, textures, and patterns, I should've known it was Down Under.

I can read your mind right now, and you are thinking: "that is the prettiest wall I have ever seen." I couldn't agree more. And the most dramatic staircase, and the most sinfully beautiful countertop. I love rocks, so I would pretty much be in heaven in this kitchen. I like how the owners, who converted the space from a shop, have kept the luxe elements in balance with the more modern ones; the sleek staircase to balance out the textured wall, the uber-modern cabinets as a counterpoint to the uber-luxe countertop.

Here's a view of the house from outside, showing the flow between indoors and out, so you can be even more jealous. The owners, who clearly have a good eye for this sort of thing, wanted to lighten the look of the brick, so they added in handcrafted Mexican bricks, which besides lightening the color also make for a lovely texture.

To further fuel the fires of your envy, head on over to HomeLife to see the full tour. And don't say I didn't warn you.
