A Room to Grow for Elia

My Room

Name: Baby Elia
Location: Montreal, Canada

Her special place to retreat to for years to come is finally done. I wanted a space that would grow with her - something timeless and not too pink on pink on more pink.

I tend to stay away from the typical childlike colors, wallpapers, fabrics and decorating accessories. Instead I opted for feminine elements that won't need to be replaced in two years - objects and accessories that are also pleasing to the adult eye.

Given that this was previously my son's room, there were certain things I had to work with such as paint colours, rug, furniture and window treatments. All I did was repaint two of the stripes on the wall in two different colors pulled from the fabric on the curtains. I worked with some leftover wallpaper from the office for her bulletin board, had a band of fabric sewn onto the existing curtains, added a girly butterfly mobile above her bed, and painted a couple of the leaves on her chandelier in pink and lavender.

I can only hope she will enjoy her special little place as much as I did putting it together.
