Remember back to your first apartment. Your bulky TV was probably sitting on something from IKEA or a hand-me-down from the folks. The DVD player, stereo and video game console (depending on the era) were all connected with a mess of cables as function really took precedence over all else. Well, our apartments have matured and so has that media storage.
Here is a roundup of modern furniture designed for media storage without looking like that's it's sole purpose in life. With rich wood finishes and built in cable management, most are able to maintain a vibe more inline with Mad Men then your old frat house.
FROM LEFT TO RIGHT:
• The Giulia Media Credenza has a cable management system from DWR, $4,600.
• The Spiranovich Console is handcrafted in Brooklyn from TOKEN, price available upon request.
• The Logan Media Console has an industrial vibe from CB2, $399.
• The Wyse 70" Media Console is made of eco-friendly bamboo from Crate and Barrel, $1,299.
• The Grove Two-Door One-Drawer Media Cabinet is available in cherry and walnut from Room and Board, $2,599.

another functional and super sexy looking console is the flexible m-shelving. we purchased a large wall unit for our equipment & other storage & are absolutely in love with it. here's a link to the site, with a photo of a smaller unit used as a low rise media console. for this model it's less than $900.

I just had one custom made by Eastvold that is amazing. Solid walnut and white front doors.

we have a bdi avion cabinet, which is great because it has glass on the doors that allow us to use remote controls, so all our components and media boxes are always nicely hidden away, even in use.

Where can I find the ("woven") chairs that are featured in that picture?
@MCFinSF- they are the classic Risom Lounge Chairs I think Knoll carries them
Hey now!
There's nothing wrong with hand-me-downs!
In a world where so much gets chucked in the garbage, it's nice to see furniture getting reclaimed from the garage, repainted and repurposed for a new generation.
One of the best things about that is that those nice, solid credenzas actually made in the 1960s when Mad Man takes place are out there, and cycling back down to our generation. It's possible to get the vintage look with something that's really vintage!
Any recommendation for smaller media furniture? I'd love to have something that's not much wider than my actual (modestly sized) televison, maybe under two feet long.
Just received my exquisite soorikian low console...could not be happier!

I prefer my marbleized Formica-topped coffee table with the retro legs from the surplus store. Spending $5.00 on that left me hella more money to spend on the TV :-)
Eastvold Furniture www.eastvoldcustom.com is able to customize the sizes of all their pieces. They built me an Elko Credenza much smaller than the one they offer and it works great in my space.
Why is it assumed that the center of a room should be an entertainment center/TV? Why not build a room around a conversation area?
