A Serene Oasis for Baby Maxwell

My Room

Name: Maxwell (5 months)
Location: Brooklyn, New York

We put this nursery together when I was 5 months pregnant and still feeling good and full of energy. I was inspired by the realistic looking Hansa stuffed animals and Sharon Montrose's baby animal photographs. I wanted Max to have his own little oasis surrounded by animals and different textures.

I had such a hard time choosing a rocking chair. We decided that with a baby on the way, shelling out over $1,000 for a chair was a bit much so I searched for a comfortable, yet more affordable chair. I wasn't crazy about the sleigh gliders but found this inexpensive one in all white and it was comfortable! I covered it with sheepskin which gives it a lot more softness and character. This became my favorite place in the house to sit even before Max was born.

I made the mobile over the crib because I could not find a mobile that seemed just right for the room. This one ended up being perfect and it makes me so happy to see Max playing with it.

I turned an old wooden milk crate on top of the radiator into a curio shelf for Max. We collected little things that could fit in the compartments as soon as we found out I was pregnant: sea shells from Venice Beach, a small rock from our baby-moon upstate, and any other little bits and pieces that tell little stories about us as we waited in excited anticipation for Max's arrival.

Lovely! Thanks, Rachel!
