To wrap up the art and collection theme for the month of September, I decided to share one of my favorite art installations by Josh Beckman. Josh installed an almost scale model of a sailing ship into a small art gallery space. When viewing the installation, it brings on an appreciation of the creativity involved but also a sense of fear even though logic dictates that the ship sinking into the floor is simply art.
To compliment the shipwreck installation, the gallery, Machine Project, is hosting five weeks of nautical themed events, which end on October 8, 2010. Today's event at 8:00pm PST features Josh Beckman and Emily Lacy presenting poetry and music related to the Rime of the Ancient Mariner.

I've seen a few shipwrecks in galleries in my day, believe me!
Hey-o Ana!
The photo is great, but it really is hard to do this installation justice. Really really amazing.
I am fortunate enough to live in LA and can visit the Machine Project in person. If you live here, go see it!
very inspiring. I'm having visions of adapting something similar as playground equipment for my kids(ok, I get to play too). I imagine it's even better in person.
Actually I think it's a great piece of art, and well executed and would enjoy seeing it in person. (Was just being facetious.)
Amazing!
Beautiful!! That's all I can say.
Wow. I love this; reminds me of a dream I had when I was a kid. Nice to see it in real life. :)
